The outer
ear is the outermost and visible portion of the
ear. It consist of two parts, auricle or pinna and the external auditory Canal or
ear canal.
Inner ear

The inner
ear is the innermost part of the
ear. It consists of the organ of hearing known as the cochlea and the organ of balance called the labyrint. The cochlea is a curled tube containing liquid that receives sound vibrations. The cochlea is also lined with tiny hairy cells that vibrate after receiving the sound waves and create nerve signals. The signals are sent to the brain to interpret them as sound.

The Eustachian tube is a small tube that connects the middle
ear and the back of the nose. It acts like a pressure valve and equalises the pressure between the middle
ear and the atmosphere. It also allows fluid to drain from the middle
ear. Infections and allergies cause the swelling of the eustachian tube which in turn causes
ear infections.

ear canal. The glands in the outer portion of the skin of the
ear Canal produce
ear wax. Earwax contains Chemicals that protect the
ear Canal from infections. These infections could damage the skin inside the

ear Canal clean.

ear infection. It is generally a bacterial or viral infection and commonly strikes children. Earache, high fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea are the common symptoms of otitis media. It can cause severe loss of hearing, paralysis, and meningitis. There are three main types of otitis media -acute, chronic, and serious.

Presbycusis is the gradual loss of hearing that occurs with ageing. Hearing loss associated with the presbycusis is usually greater for high-pitched sounds. Presbycusis occurs most often in both
ears, affecting both equally. People who have presbycusis may not realise the loss of hearing because the process is gradual.
