The nose is a sense organ used is smelling and breathing. It is placed just above the mouth on the face. It can smell thousands of odours and is the main entrance to the respiratory system. The nose inhales and exhales air.

nose is divided into two openings known as nostrils. They are separated by bones and cartilage wall known as the septum. The nostrils lead to two nasal passages through which the air passes and reaches the lungs through the windpipe. nose to the throat the mucus membranes in the nasal bones prevents the dust from passing into the lungs.

Smell is a sense associated with the
nose. Human beings detect smells by inhaling air carrying odours in the form of chemicals. The nerve receptors in the nusal cavity convert the chemicals into nerve impulses and send them to the brain. The olfactory bulb in the brain sends the impulses to other parts of the brain, where they are interpreted as odours.

Anosmia is the loss of the sense of smell. It can also lead to the loss of the sense of taste. Anosmia can be temporary our permanent. Temporary loss of smell is caused due to a stuffy
nose or an infection. A permanent loss of smell may be caused by brain injury where the olfactory nerve or certain brain areas that process is smell are damaged. The lack of the sense of smell at birth is usually due to genetic factors and is referred to as cognitial anosmia. It can occasionally be an early sign of degenerative a brain disease such as Parkinson's disease on Alzheimer's disease.

Salivary glands are glands in and around the mouth and the throat. This glands produce and release of fluid known as saliva. Saliva is a mixture of water, proteins, and salts. The saliva moistens the mouth and makes chewing and swallowing of food easier. It contains enzymes that break down certain types of food.
